Nanyuki Safari: Luxury Lodges, Conservancies & Mount Kenya Views

A Nanyuki safari places you on the equator, at the foot of Mount Kenya, on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau. It is a landscape of cool highland air, open savanna and some of Kenya’s most celebrated private conservancies. Ol Pejeta, Lewa and Loisaba each offer a different side of the region, from rare rhinos and chimpanzees to walking safaris and camel treks. The lodges below are chosen for their setting, their service and the quiet way they let the landscape take centre stage.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta is one of East Africa’s most important wildlife sanctuaries, covering about 90,000 acres near Nanyuki in Laikipia County. It is home to the last two northern white rhinos in the world and the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. Guests can also see lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and cheetah. Activities include game drives, guided bush walks, lion tracking and conservation experiences. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya, cares for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees. An Ol Pejeta safari suits travellers who want wildlife viewing with a meaningful conservation story.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Beneath the slopes of Mount Kenya, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy covers more than 62,000 acres and is celebrated for its rhino protection and community partnerships. It forms part of the Mount Kenya UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lewa is home to black and white rhino, Grevy’s zebra, elephants, big cats and more than 350 bird species. Beyond game drives, guests can enjoy walking safaris, horse riding and cultural visits. Lewa’s lodges sit in dramatic scenery and reward those who want space, privacy and expert guiding.

Loisaba Conservancy

Loisaba covers about 57,000 acres of Laikipia’s rolling plains, with wide views towards Mount Kenya. The conservancy protects elephants, lions and wild dogs, and it combines its conservation work with community partnerships. Guests can explore by game drive, camel trek, horse ride, walking safari or mountain bike, and some stays include a night in an open-air starbed. Loisaba is a natural choice for adventurous travellers who want variety without giving up comfort.

Nanyuki Town & Mount Kenya
